Great read, as always. I wonder: is there an efficient and accurate aggregator of prices actually paid (not listed)? Is that even possible?
I would also want a few other features -
1. To automatically provide the original MSRP - both for curiosity and also because one of my collecting "rules" is to never pay more than retail. (I still appreciate watches selling above retail, but have no interest in owning any. Watches are a hobby for me, not an investment.)
2. Links to reviews, with sorting criteria so that preferred sources are first.
To me, the ultimate version of this is not simply an all-seeing listings feed, but a platform that aggregates demand as well as supply.
Tell it the exact watch you want, and it scans every dealer, auction house and marketplace, surfacing the best available opportunity the moment it appears. If several verified buyers are waiting for that same watch, the seller could be invited to open a short bidding window.
That creates the quid pro quo: buyers get speed, reach and price transparency; sellers get immediate access to qualified demand and potentially a better net result. The real moat may not be knowing everything that is for sale. It may be knowing what the entire market wants before sellers do.
