That was a great read! The stuff about the private kink chat groups was illuminating, it’s a brave new world 😂. Two well made and resonant points from the guest writer! I really believe in the first one - you have to try it on in the metal, unfortunate that often that’s not an option with limited runs, microbrands and independents. The second point about making sure it’s really the one you want really resonates, and maybe taking your time is the best and only sure advice here!

Cheers Prak! That "kink" chat groups made me LOL!!

On the first point... astute observation. Whilst there is no substitute for getting hands-on, I have found it helps to have a few key details to hand, for what you personally regard as 'non starter' charateristics. For instance, a lug-to-lug of 51mm is probably the absolute maximum for me... but this can be variable if the lugs curve downward (like a Journe) or they stick out (like a Breguet)... This is one example, but with details like this, it helps me - at the very least - decide whether I should even care about a watch at all!

After that, sometimes you simply have no choice but to gamble! I bought this watch unseen, taking the word of a fellow collector: https://laventure.swiss/en/the-watches/automobile-chronograph-collection/laventure-automobile-chronograph

I read the technical specs, and I knew there was a chance it would suck - but I figured at that price, it was worth a gamble... and it paid off. I love it. I have others too, which I bought unseen - but of average, these are outliers for me, in terms of decision-making!
