This was a fantastic read. It’s so hard to explain to no watch people that they aren’t just time pieces. You’re wrote this beautifully

Cheers Philip! Thanks for taking the time.

Is "attracted to shiny objects" an emotion?

kingflum's avatar

I guess? 😂

I really enjoyed this one. Especially the excerpt about a watch being a mechanical device, tracking time with and for us and its own beating heart strapped to our wrist. It is funny how I feel incomplete when I’m not wearing a watch. Like part of me is missing. It’s always an odd feeling when it’s not on

kingflum's avatar

Totally! I absolutely feel incomplete if I leave home with a naked wrist, although admittedly this rarely happens because that nakedness becomes apparent long before I walk out of the door 😂

I really relate to this type of article as it brings an increasing connection for me to other enthusiasts. I enjoy that you add your personal feeling touch to this piece and keep it always interesting. Thanks for this! Always a fun and interesting read!

And you did succeed with resonance :)

BTW There are some great stories that underscore and illustrate the topic of this essay in Matt Hraneck’s book “A Man and His Watch” for anyone who would like to dive into some very personal examples 🤗

kingflum's avatar

Wanna hear something nuts? I’ve owned that book for many years, but never read it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Vinay Sarathy's avatar

Yup, I browsed through the pictures when I received it as a gift many years ago and yet to read it. maybe this weeekend, Or maybe not and it can go f itself!

kingflum's avatar

😂😂😂 that's a sign you need a holiday!

Vinay Sarathy's avatar

Is there such a thing with a little kid… but to be fair, we’re going on a ‘holiday’ taking my kid to Germany via Amsterdam for a Taylor Swift concert. Hope she likes it! 😂😂🤣😅😅

kingflum's avatar

Definitely all in the mind; enjoy it while it lasts man. They grow up fast and then won’t want to go with you. Can’t win!

Bruce L's avatar

I’ll own up as well, although not to this tome, but to others in my collection, embarrassingly large in numbers, that haven’t been cracked open yet 🙄😬🫣

kingflum's avatar

😂 we plan. God laughs.

Very well stated and gets to the very core of this disease/hobby/passion/obsession/connection to the world for so many of us!

kingflum's avatar

We live here, at the core. 😜

I had a fashion watch before I got back into the hobby and remember wearing my Guess watch when my son was born
