Moral Superiority Complex in Watch Collecting
Communal narcissism and performative virtue in our hobby
Think of people who never shut up about how they only buy from independents, or how they appreciate watches for “the right reasons” while everyone else gets labelled a hype-chaser. These are the types who try and make others feel like shallow status-seekers because they bought a Rolex but lo and behold, mere months later, that same person will reveal a new Voutilainen or something. The moral high ground, it turns out, often comes with excellent resale value.
Anyway, hold that thought.
