After you’ve been into watches for long enough, it becomes increasingly rare to encounter a watch that stops you dead in your tracks. Having enjoyed over a decade in this hobby, I’ve developed a certain immunity to the never-ending parade of “revolutionary” releases which are often just re-runs with different dial colours. So, does the same sentiment apply to Romain Gauthier’s C6?
Let’s find out…

First Encounters
I first met Romain in London at a collectors’ dinner a couple of years ago, if I recall correctly (my memory blurs in the same weird way watch dinners tend to). At the time, I was curious about his watches but still firmly on the fence. His pieces - particularly the Logical One - seemed too large for me, and like many other collectors, I’d formed misguided beliefs based on dimensions rather than actual wrist time.
When the C series (initially called “Continuum”) first crossed my path (or Insta feed as it were), I’d been mildly interested, but definitely not captivated. We hopefully all know by now, it is virtually impossible to form reliable opinions based solely on press photos or Instagram videos (despite the Cubitus commentary being fairly accurate in hindsight 😂).
Anyway, during that London dinner, I got my hands on the C5 (at that point, still unreleased or perhaps fresh to market), and something shifted in my mind. I still felt the non-open-worked dial had a slight visual imbalance (too much empty space around the seconds hand at 7 o’clock) but I couldn’t get over how wonderfully thin, light, and comfortable it felt on my wrist. It wasn’t bulky at all, which is what I’d incorrectly imagined all Romain’s watches to be.
It turns out, this was just a taste of things to come.
