Going Beyond "If You Know You Know"
How the Rumsfeld Matrix Can Inform Watch Collecting Decisions
“If you know you know” might be the most overused phrase in watch collecting, so today, we will talk about why you should be more interested in knowing what you don’t know instead.
If you’ve been following SDC for a while, you’ll already know we love a good framework. I guess it all started with The Watch Collector’s Matrix, which recently evolved into the data-driven 2.0 upgrade; these posts are somewhat ‘foundational’ and perhaps the best representation of what SDC was intended to tackle when I first started it. The problem is, it’s not easy to just invent a framework every other week, and I think even if this were to happen, people would get bored of frameworks and their overall utility would decline.
That said, I do think good frameworks help people make better collecting decisions through the use of structured thinking (and in the case of SDC, hopefully also entertaining you along the way!). So, with that preamble, I’d like to add another tool to your arsenal.
