Not to be getting to old, to quickly I like to look at this swatch collaboration madness as innovation in the advertising world and also pioneering the way for people to get access to "luxury unattainable brands" without being well off.
1/3 People in the UK do not have more than £1500 in savings and the average savings in the UK as of 2020 satastics was £6757.00
Why do I bring this up? To highlight How many people can actually at anypoint in life afford a luxury mechanical watch.
In todays world we live in, life is expensive! And for most we all desire a item of materialistic value at somepoint.
For those who would love a watch with a prestigious brand name ans history but simply aren't in the position in life to buy a speedometer or a fifty fathoms .. swatch is giving a opportunity to own that brand name on your wrist without breaking the bank.
Yes it is a genius marketing tool and no doubt the main reason they are doing it.
But for the consumer without a sweet early double digits to drop on blancpain or a speedy 6/7/8k both these options provide a name, heritage and obtainablility.
This is why they are popular, omega swatch collaboration absloutely sold more on release than Omega sold in speedmasters that year ... why? Not because its a better watch that's for sure, but because its obtainable luxury and we all desire to have abit of the good life sometimes.
If anything I think this makes the actual versions of the watches more special while boosting the brands awareness and relevance at the same time.
Swatch has put allot more effort into the Blancpain and it shows, its going to be very intresting to see one in person.
All i see across YouTube and comment sections is the negativity and hate towards it.. and I'm not so sure why everyone's got thier panties in a twist.
You don't have to buy one for a start, it's optional!
It only makes an actual fifty Fathoms more special to own and obtain in my eyes atleast.
And again you really don't have to buy one 🤣.
My only dislike is the price when the movement can't be serviced or fixed easily, that's my peeve on this, otherwise I wouldn't mind having one!
Thanks for the awesome response, and detailed consideration! Yes, it’s a pity about the lack of any “sustainability credentials” on the SxBP piece... it’s surprising to me, but I suppose it was always about profit over sustainability... how naive of me 😂

THIS answers a question I have long been meaning to ask! ....thanks for the stats 🐾🐾 (very interesting yet bewildering)
