🚨 Welcome to another edition of SDC Weekly. Estimated reading time: ~20 mins
This week started with too much drama, yet, there’s still more to cover. This is a shorter edition, because I removed a long section which would have put this over 45 minutes and I chose short over long 😁 Today we dive into some controversial claims regarding Blancpain’s founding, explore the newly formed Alternative Horological Alliance, and unpack the buzz around Geneva Watch Days. From ultra-thin watches to fruity collaborations and lessons for independent watchmakers... Let’s get into it.
If you’re new here, welcome! You can read older editions of SDC Weekly via this link.

Small stuff
Blancpain Baloney
Few claims carry as much weight as being the oldest watch brand in continuous operation. This is a title which Blancpain has long laid claim to, citing 1735 as its founding year. A recent deep dive into the annals of horological history by Jose Pereztroika has cast a shadow of doubt over this assertion.
