I am no philosopher, but I do see myself as a fierce rationalist. With this logical hat on, that I would like to discuss the topic of having children, and why this may, or may not be a good idea. My overall conclusion is that while young children may bring many moments of joy and positives to young parents, the real reason for having children is the benefits which accrue to the parents when they become old.
I am a relatively young adult (just under 30). I might come off as an edgelord pessimist, but because I have an antinatalist life view, I do not really see the joy or point in begeting children who in turn beget grandchildren into the net unpleasantry that is life. The Confucianist tenet of finial piety is very familiar coming from an Asian background, and in older age, parents are reciprocated a small fraction of their labor of love in the form of the respect and care from their children. So having children is the best and most natural prevention against loneliness into old age as loved ones of the previous generation pass away through family support.
Wow. Your article really reflects my feelings. We have two boys (4 and 2) and it is a hell lot of work (physical, emotional, monetary) and yes there are beautiful moments, for example when they play peacefully together. But most of the times it is real work. I really like the thought of having the payoff in 20 years when they are off to university and maybe later have their own kids :)

“Edgelord pessimist” 😂
To each their own, there is no correct answer after all.
Thankfully, with our parents love was enough to make it happen. Good read! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Word. Bless them immensely. ❤️
