* it relates as it’s about Christian Dior in Paris during and after the Nazi occupation and the birth of The New Look. As much about Coco Channel as Dior although she is not presented (most likely accurately) in a very sympathetic light
Enjoyed this immensely, thanks for taking the time to compile. Look forward to the analysis you’re planning to share in the newsletter and would love to see the Hermes one too 👏 💯
Wow that was quick! 😂 if only I timed the compilation of this… not sure I knew what I was undertaking when I started it… but thanks for taking the time. 👊
None so far, just know that Hong Kong Land agrees to clear away existing tenants when the current lease expires. Rumour has it it will be known in 2026.
Very well written and fascinating! This article underlines so much of what you have already written about brand value, status and social structure throughout the SDC saga 😑……..(and yes, there again is that inscrutable emoji in yet another interpretation 🧐) …..go figure
Well done. Enjoyed the read. One note: the store-within-a-store appeared in the scene in the mid-late 1980s, sometime before luxury brands did it, with one very successful pioneer being Nautica (in a very different segment) within regional department store chains.
Thanks Mike! Got any good links or references on the history of Nautica’s retail strategy? The key here, was LVMH’s portfolio / brand diversity gave leverage in negotiations with department stores. That is, they were able to capture RETAIL margin in a space where others were only selling at wholesale margins to the department stores. It was vertical integration without needing to own the retail store itself. Rolex does the same thing today.
Game of thrones :)
Fantastic job, thanks! 👏🏼
Proper! Thanks for taking the time!
Great idea to translate the pod for the watch lovers here…really enjoyed the read amigo!!!
So awesome to hear, thanks for taking the time! 😃
Just a quick one before I actually read the article but having skimmed through the pictures. This is a great show that just came out recently.

Yeah from what I read… Chanel deserves no sympathy in this regard!
What a read👏 Bravo👌
Cheers Malaka!
Great reading ! You hardly believe all this has been done in only 40 years … bravo
Astonishing accomplishments, for sure. Cheers!
Thanks very much for this, very insightful and deeply researched 🙏🏻
To be fair, I outsourced the research to the podcast here 🤣

One more thing, he’s emptying out the whole Land Mark mall in hk and remodelling it into something else.
Any idea what it might be?

Excellent read, thank you!
Cheers George 🥂
Waiting to see what’s next for LVMH to pick up!! Great job on this one, I was mindblown by a few random factoids within this article….!
Funny enough they’re selling… Marc Jacobs I believe.
And here we are in 2024. What a story. He also believes in the power of family. They learn, they evolve and now it’s not just Bernard anymore.
Not the same spirit though... Bernard is a serious visionary.
Maybe I'm a business nerd 🤓 but this was a highly enjoyable read!
Also, I don't have the patience or time for podcasts, let alone 4hs ones, so thanks for the transcript!

The SDC saga 😂
Indeed, always curious when I see 😑 show up. As always, thanks for taking the time. 🥂

Have a read here -- a primary source for my article tracing the history of Nautica Watches over on Robi's calibre321.com site.
