Thanks for this excellent summary and review of this book! It is true that all the key points are applicable to watch collecting! We all need to know when we have enough watches, haha.

Pleasure! Really glad to hear it... and of course, that is the “oxymoron of watch collecting,” isn’t it!? 😂

Great book and great article and how it relates to watch collecting. There is a part in the book where Housel discusses how he sleeps better with us house paid off, even though the “math” doesn’t analytically support that decision. I think about this often. There is emotion in the watches as there is in finances and coming to understand how those impact decisions can make a huge difference in where we place our money and which watches we choose to collect and why, even when others think the cost is crazy, there may be a real emotion that outweighs the cost.

Would love to hear your take on how the book “Die with Zero” relates to watch collecting. I found the book fascinating, a great companion to “The Psychology of Money”

I just posted another one about this emotional aspect you mentioned... Great idea regarding Die with zero! I will look into that this weekend! Thanks!

It’s a conundrum to be sure “know when you have enough” is definitely one of the key points and one I have been dwelling upon a lot recently especially after reading so many of the recent posts and articles referenced in this one (for example) .......also thinking quite a bit about the folly of “comparing collections” or “judging others choices”. I’m beginning to appreciate my own (suddenly, not so humble) box of clocks anew.......great thought provoking write up 🙏🏻❤️ thanks

Thanks for taking the time (not only with this post!) to read it all. Humbling to hear... the power of ‘enough’ cannot be overstated- not only in watches, but in life itself. As I said yesterday when we spoke... we all die, no matter how famous, wealthy, healthy or wise. So to the extent we can, it’s best to focus on the journey, not the things we take along for the ride. 🤷‍♂️
