So much ground to cover here Flum! Good stuff! For me, I need to SEE a watch to decide. Remember the vitriol over the release of the AP Code 11:59? This is no different. I’m also close to several of those “Insta famous”collectors, and these are not the type of men who would pretend to like something they don’t. So there’s that. The opinions of those in that room carried more weight since they handled the watch…not to mention they are serious buyers. Lastly, we are in the midst of what I call “the age of unhappiness.” Blame it on bad parenting, inflation, social media, or dilution, but a lot of people are constantly whining over anything and everything, for SPORT. And I agree, some of the people that praised the watch didn’t particularly care for it…they were mum! This is perhaps a sign of a bigger issue facing our society. People are living in constant fear. We live in a world where if someone was randomly attacked on a street corner, be it NY or London, onlookers are more likely to take videos on their phones and post stories on IG, instead of helping out. People are afraid to speak up. Is this Stalin’s Russia? Very odd. Loved this article! A very thought provoking read Brother! 💪🏿

Appreciate you man!

I’m not sure I agree that the folks you mentioned would be entirely forthcoming with negative feedback PUBLICLY - in quiet conversations, yes - but by definition we won’t ever hear that. So to me, them being “mum” is in fact more of a negative signal than not.

The observation about the age of unhappiness is astute, and valid. I agree that negative thoughts and general whining is now a sport, and that’s probably what social media has done to us collectively - having a big moan and then getting people to agree, is a form of validation and a cheap way to create a tribe... since we’re all programmed to find belonging it isn’t surprising that people love doing it.

That’s because there are always a larger group who are NOT being negative and so, there’s no sense of tribe when you’re all saying the same thing. The key takeaway, then, is maybe we only actually observe the negative feelings because the positive energy is lost and then for granted.

From that perspective, I still feel hopeful. If we just don’t jump on bandwagons, we can create a better tribe. A tribe of people who support THINKING. Not criticising for sport, but constructively speaking with a solutions mindset not a shit stirring one.

I love our chats brother, thank you for reading. 🙏

This too shall pass. I’m extremely hopeful as well Bro! In the end, hope and positivity is the only answer. Cheers Flum! 🙏🏾
