I had to pause reading to comment: the status quo bias applies in another way as well I mentioned in the group recently: we buy what we value, and the market, brands, influencers, fellow collectors all dictate what is valuable. In the modern social media age it’s finally finished time only watches. A few years ago it was bubble backs. Before that it was large sized watches. Before that, ultra complications. And so on. “Our” tastes are shaped in part by longer term trends none of us individually controls or is even aware of.

Fantastic post. The explanations of interplay between psychology, neuroscience, and decision making theory is first class. Really great work making it understandable and tying it to vivid examples.

This is exactly what my brain did, when I was done :)

Thanks! Every time you keep surprising and “feeding”.

I do think you have a very different experience as humanitarian vs tech faculty student though.

Planes ❤️ why do you hate airlines btw?

Loved the word “numberphile”, never seen that before :D Math - queen of science, always fascinating

When I saw the Apple/Google AI headline I immediately thought of the wasted efforts to build the Apple car and how those resources might have been used. How much will this cost them as we enter the age of AI? Maybe a lot, maybe not much, as they are good at following and making something objectively better. This feels a little different though.

Looking forward to getting through the rest of these links later! Thanks again!
