Uncover a hidden Rolex Perpetual Calendar, Pragnell's inventory dump, Massena's collaborations, Greubel's new CEO, the launch of Horocraft, and the latest watch industry news.
Man, what set of topics/links this week. Really enjoyed most of this with a couple held in reserve for delayed gratification. I think you posted that face test under a different guise before? Seems I'm a bit better at it now if my memory serves. Be well!
Yes i remember the old test I posted… not exactly the same but - good memory! This one seems to be much quicker, and for me - therefore less reliable! Still, fun for me. You’ve inadvertently given me a new idea - monthly post of “links only” - all the shit I didn’t include or cut from the weekly links section. Think that would be useful? It is, by definition “too random” for the weekly, but could be of interest to others too. Just thinking aloud here.
That would be excellent. I’m currently waiting on my interviewee. Your bit about the pursuit of social status will help. Would you answer some questions if I send to your inbox? 📨
In spite of the fact that I’ve gotten so far behind that I am actually reading these out of order now this was a very prodigious output this week that I thoroughly enjoyed. Loved the backstories about Massena (the good the bad and the ugly) and Luca Soprana which put them both in a new light for me.
The bit about status markers reminded me about the history of lapis lazuli
Another somewhat ironic social status marker was prior to the industrial revolution and during the middle ages when pale skin was a mark of high status because it showed one did not have to be working outdoors and was likely living a life of leisure.
Eventually that turned around so that a tanned complexion signaled a life of leisure
Also the timeless principles of course can apply to many other things than our little “hobby”…. Personally I have found #6 and #9 becoming more pertinent and honored by me as time goes on, partly due to the writer’s frequent emphasis on them.

I would definitely enjoy that. Go for it if it's not too much trouble.
Loved it ty!!!!
Cheers D!
You have an email from me giving a little background to one of your stories
Got it! Just replied. That’s for this comment btw - the email went to junk despite us having communicated before. Foolish tech!
Chapeau 👌
Thanks P🙏
From Massena to Marx to Kant to Oysterquartz perpetual calendars - that is a journey! Bravo!
Cheers Andy!
I was just doing some research on collectors circles dynamics and the different roles members play 🫢
Oh, nice! What did you find so far? 😃
Happy to discuss it further if you’re interested. One of my favourite subjects
