Everyone carries an invisible tolerance bottle. Some days it's full, other days you're running on empty. Learn why the same situation makes you laugh one day and snap the next, what brain science reveals about emotional regulation, and practical ways to fill your bottle before it runs dry.
which I think is a terrible metaphor but can be useful when trying to understand a neurodivergent person's challenges with energy management. (A task which needs 3 spoons from me is only 1 from you, and vice versa, and somedays we didn't rest and have fewer spoons available.)
Thanks Mike - wow! Spoon theory is an EXCELLENT parallel, and I am also grateful to you for sharing it... honestly, it's so similar in nature, that had I known, I'd probably be daft NOT to reference it in the post itself! Just goes to show, there's no such thing as 'original thought' 😂
Be it spoons or drops of tolerance from our bottles... I really have enjoyed immense personal growth in the past year... so much so, that I couldn't NOT write this post. Long time coming, and thank you again for taking the time.
All good, you disclaimed early on. Similar and different, as yours was much more about energy management and less focused on "everyone has different energy utilization for similar tasks."
Brilliant ✅…..great post and well presented material…
just had one of those days yesterday (actually a fairly rare occurrence anymore for me) and almost immediately pulled over, stopped the car and sat and told myself why what just set me off was nothing more than “spilled milk” and quickly reset.
Having been in a couple 12 step recovery groups for a few decades I’ve probably recited “the Serenity Prayer” enough thousands of times that it actually sunk in to some degree and has slightly altered my default setting permanently (I think 🤔😬)
I’ll add or emphasize that sleep quality is a vital and primary cornerstone of a full tolerance bottle (or having a sufficiently well stocked “armory” of spoons )🥄; something that I have come to understand fully only of late
Always up for a non-watch read that's been thought through.
Reminds me a bit of spoon theory https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoon_theory

Ya know I like these kind of articles a lot! 😉
Struggling with this for a long time, will be working on it till my last days. Each year I hope to be a little better than the last.
Thanks for opening this post up to all of us
Thanks for sharing.
